When Adams Community Theatre, LLC purchased the Adams Theatre in 2012, one of our first steps was to contact the Wisconsin State Historical Society to see whether the building might qualify as a Wisconsin Historical Site. After a site visit, the Society determined that while the Adams Theatre is an important part of our community’s story, it does not meet the criteria for statewide historical designation.
While this meant we weren’t required to restore the building to its original 1946 condition, it also meant we were ineligible for the larger grants typically available through association with the Historical Society. Thankfully, the Adams County community—and many former residents
who still care deeply about this place—have been incredibly generous. Their support has allowed A.C.T. to continue growing as a home where the arts can thrive. We’ve received a handful of smaller grants over the years, but it’s truly our memberships, event attendance, and generous donations that have kept us going. With that support, we even weathered a two year shutdown during COVID19.
This February, the work on the theater continues. Electrical upgrades are underway, new security improvements are being installed, and we’re gearing up for our annual Chick Flick Spectacular at the end of the month.
